Welcome
If you’ve landed here then you’re looking for a natural and wholistic approach to achieving your very best health. Perhaps you’ve tried everything else and nothing has worked. I’m happy you’ve arrived, let’s get started!
My Story
Hello, I’m Keryn 🙂
I am passionate about working with people through this deeply profound, healing and wonderful medicine!
I have travelled a long road to arrive where I am now.
My journey started when I was 14 years old. I was in love with playing piano, performing at a very high level among the top in the state and with dreams of becoming a concert pianist. It all fell apart when I developed chronic wrist pain.
Trawling conventional medicine for answers mostly turned up a myopic approach to chronic issues and the treatments brought trauma and pain.
I eventually sought a wholistic treatment in cranial osteopathy which helped me strengthen and move my life forward. This was also my first tangible experience of Qi, though I didn’t know that’s what it was at the time.
There was no overnight “solution” to this chronic pain. Over some years I was strong enough to live life without pain, though I had to let the piano go and studied to become an engineer.
The real cause ran deep and had very little to do with “my wrists”. This was simply the surface manifestation of something in my life that wasn’t working.
I learned a valuable lesson in health: a wrist is never just a wrist. A wrist is connected to a person, who lives a certain way and has a life history. By remaining purely focused on the wrist and ignoring the person, the real cause is not addressed, and the symptoms are unlikely to fully resolve. I see similar situations in clinic today. (A notable exception can be where the cause is direct and clear such as trauma/injury, although we would still treat the whole individual).
I went on to have an interesting and successful career working as an engineer in Australia and overseas. However, for many of those years I had a nagging feeling that I wasn’t quite doing what I really wanted to be doing. But what was that, exactly?
15 years ago I embarked on what would become a life-long path of deep meditation practices. As I explored the inner landscape – Qi, Spirit, and mind – my internal and external life gradually came in closer to alignment. I found a passion in healing and was pointed in the direction of Chinese medicine.
I have come full-circle in some ways.
I returned to full-time studies and completed the intensive four-year Bachelor of Health Science in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) at the University of Technology, Sydney. As a mature student, finally certain about what I wanted to do, I was very motivated in my studies and graduated at the top of my class.
The work of Chinese medicine is fascinating; it is a constant path of learning and food for curiosity and wonder! I finally love what I do! It is deeply gratifying to work one-on-one with people and help them move toward better health with more joy and ease in their lives.
I continue to learn and develop my skills and knowledge through professional development. I completed a formal 6-week internship in the Chengdu Hospital of TCM in Chengdu, China and recently in 2019 I spent two weeks observing the Doctors at Tzu Chi Hospital in Taichung, Taiwan. I attend courses and training every year, delivered by highly experienced Chinese medicine practitioners from around the world.
I also believe in the power and potential of cross-disciplinary fertilisation. My experience as an engineer, the clarity and focus, certainly informs my work as an acupuncturist. I believe I am a much better practitioner today having had all of that varied life and work experience. I continue to work with Engineers Without Borders, and will disappear from the clinic for a few weeks each year to facilitate Design Summits in Nepal, India and Cambodia.
My Mission
To free the Spirit’s expression, helping all individuals to live with joy and ease.
How will I work with you?
I work with traditional Chinese medicine to help you achieve your desired health goals.
Chinese medicine sees you as a whole and as an individual. It has a unique framework to put all the pieces of your story together (including the sometimes seemingly unrelated pieces of information about your life and health) to understand what’s going on in your mind/body, what’s not working, what is out of balance.
Rather than covering up symptoms, we use symptoms to understand what is out of balance, and what needs to change.
I then work with you using acupuncture, cupping, moxibustion, herbs, and simple lifestyle and dietary advice to help your body to re-establish health.
Chinese medicine works with the innate knowledge of the body/mind to heal. Over time and the right treatment, your body/mind will remember new pathways that sustain your health.
What can you expect from me?
I will listen to you and see you as an individual. I will treat you with respect and be honest and transparent about my treatments. I will, to the best of my ability, answer any questions that you have, and I am committed to helping you to achieve your health goals.
I aim to provide a safe place for everyone who passes through my doors, inclusive of gender, sexual and cultural diversity.
I approach your health as a partnership and will help equip you with the tools and knowledge (diet and lifestyle) so that you can make steps towards long term health.
